{"id":169,"date":"2009-07-04T06:00:30","date_gmt":"2009-07-04T13:00:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jaybot7.com\/blog\/?p=169"},"modified":"2009-06-30T12:45:18","modified_gmt":"2009-06-30T19:45:18","slug":"on-wheelbarrows","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jaybot7.com\/blog\/on-wheelbarrows","title":{"rendered":"On Wheelbarrows."},"content":{"rendered":"<a href=\"https:\/\/jaybot7.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/barrow.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-167\" title=\"barrow\" src=\"https:\/\/jaybot7.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/barrow.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"126\" height=\"118\" \/><\/a>\n<p>Happy 4th of July! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>After playing any of the Arvale games, many people have asked me <em>Why\/How<\/em> <strong>Wheelbarrows<\/strong>?<\/p>\n<p>The honest answer is: it was <em>funny<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>I was editing the maps and adding all sorts of clickable things in the towns, things that people are usually doing in an <strong>RPG<\/strong> to search for hidden potions and whatnot; when I wondered&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>What if instead of <em>&#8216;You&#8217;ve found a Potion!&#8217; <\/em>or <em>&#8216;You found 50 Gold!&#8217;<\/em>, it actually said more interesting:<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8216;Your hands sift through the bag of rice (while the storekeeper isn&#8217;t looking, of course) and you disturbed the cockroaches sleeping inside&#8230; but you didn&#8217;t find anything worth taking.&#8217;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Then using that concept to make comments about the character&#8217;s current environment (similar to an old <strong>Graphic Adventure<\/strong>):<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8216;You peer off into the distance behind Highwatch Castle.&#8217;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8216;It&#8217;s very dark, gloomy, and wicked looking.&#8217;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8216;You smile and take some comfort knowing that the game won&#8217;t allow you to visit up there.&#8217;<\/em> (I still like that one \ud83d\ude42 )<\/p>\n<p>And the next logical step of course would be, Why on earth would someone click on a <strong>Wheelbarrow<\/strong>? Either they<br \/>\na) are looking for hidden treasure (boring)<br \/>\nb) are crazy (interesting)<br \/>\nc) think their character is crazy and thinks he can talk to wheelbarrows (funny)<br \/>\nd) think their character might be crazy, and has a long standing rapport with wheelbarrows and actually interacts with them (damn funny) and somehow:<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8216;You vocalize your beliefs about the class structure in Kytar to the wheelbarrow.&#8217;<br \/>\n&#8216;You exchange knowing glances with the wheelbarrow.&#8217;<br \/>\n&#8216;You teach the wheelbarrow a few new tricks.&#8217;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Simple lines like these are hilarious even 15 hours into the game. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>Oh and rooms like this:<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/jaybot7.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/barrowroom.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-168\" title=\"barrowroom\" src=\"https:\/\/jaybot7.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/barrowroom-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"155\" height=\"207\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jaybot7.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/barrowroom-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/jaybot7.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/barrowroom.jpg 240w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 155px) 100vw, 155px\" \/><\/a>\n<p>Were a nightmare for me. \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Happy 4th of July! \ud83d\ude42 After playing any of the Arvale games, many people have asked me Why\/How Wheelbarrows?
