Update: Apparently, they’re releasing a Beatles Rock Band game. Why?
I listen to a lot of music. That’s part of my job. Everything from Classical to Rock. Yes, even Rap and Country.
If a certain style exists, I have to be able to write in it. But I still don’t get the Beatles.
Their music, that is. As a pop-culture phenomenon, sure. I get them as much as Marilyn Monroe, Elvis, and the Smurfs. But their music, no.
Believe me, I really want to! I feel like I’m lacking some Beatles appreciation gene. Especially now that they are releasing a Beatles Rock Band game (which, in my opinion, is really stretching the genre. In gaming and music).
I’ve been trying to understand their music and why its great for over 10 years. They do have perhaps 4-5 good songs, but that is true for pretty much any music group in any genre, just from the sheer number of songs they released.
Even from a Catcher in the Rye perspective, (a crappy book now, but when it was written, the stream-of-consciousness/troubled-first-person-character-style that it was written in was ahead of its time), I dont get it. The Beach Boys came along a bit earlier, had some really advanced songs for their time (Pet Sounds), and have 10x as many great songs. Same era. Sorry, I just don’t get it.
Please enlighten me, if there is something in this whole Beatles thing I’m not getting. I can’t imagine playing Beatles Rock Band being fun unless I like the music.

The Beatles Rock Band commercials are running constantly right now, and I wonder the same thing. I read another article about choosing the top 10 Beatles songs of all time, and they ultimately decided it couldn’t be done because (apparently) ALL Beatles songs are classics. …huh? I can’t even name more than a couple off the top of my head. Lesee: “I want to hold your hand” … …wait, scratch that- I can only name one. And it’s a pop song my dad played when I was young that hardly represents the work of an “ultimate rock band”. Give me Zeppelin. Give me Hendrix. Eff the Beatles
Thanks for dropping by brian! Appreciate the comments. Considering the amount of people that come here wondering the exact same thing, we’re not alone in our thinking.
Is the Beatles domination due to some marketing machine?
