Go See Ponyo!

If it’s playing in your area, you must go see the movie Ponyo. It’s been localized for the US, it’s brilliant, beautiful, and cute as hell (and the music is fantastic to boot).

The critics seem to love it as well.

It really reminds me of how Disney Animated films used to be before the 3D era of Pixar came along (Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Lion King, etc).

Don’t get me wrong, I love Pixar too, there is just something different about Hand-drawn 2D animation that has a certain kind of magic.

Speaking of Disney/Pixar, John Lasseter (Producer/Director) helped with the direction and localization of Ponyo for the US, which is really cool. On the flip-side, I just saw Bolt in theaters here in Tokyo and the localization to Japanese was amazing (the mouth syncing was exact, they replaced written materials in the movie to Japanese, even translated and re-recorded the music with Japanese lyrics).
