I'm having a lot of trouble with the third episode trial.
The game is just so slow I feel that I can barely get through the cut scenes and the menus are almost impossible to navigate.
I'd like to think that my PC is up to spec I'm running a 2.2G dual core and a Radeon HD 4270 graphic card with a minimal stripped down version of XP.
Any advice? I was really looing forward to being able to play Arvale with a cursor like the old days

I've heard this from a few other customers on slower computers where the culrpit was the mouse cursor pathfinding algorithm, which I've been pulling my hair out tweaking for the past few weeks and I think I'm close to speeding it up… but a dual-core Radeon is not a slow computer… so I'm baffled.
Hopefully the update I'm working on will address the issue, but until then… try toggling full screen on/off; and perhaps running the game in compatibility mode with a few different settings (or toggling the windows color mode to 16/32 bit). Other than that… I'll keep digging.

Thank you for such a quick and helpful answer =)
I've tried the settings you mentioned this morning but to no avail.
In 16 bit mode I get errors for running in 356 colours and all compatibility modes other than Windows 2000 are not supported.
On the brighter side in Win200, compatibility the game does seem to run "slightly" faster.
I will try it out on another machine later ( I have only one Intel based system ) and check that in case there is a compatibility problem with AMD chipsets and get back to you later.
Are there any other che.cks you would like me to do?
I'm no programmer but I know my systems pretty well.

On another note:
I've created a newer version of Arvale Episode III, which you can download here: http://jaybot7.com/atm3_setup_nm.exe
This version has the mouse controls removed and all of the old menus from Episode II restored (plus the new menus from Episode III) all accessible from the Escape Key/Enter Key and direction arrows as it was previously.
This should speed the game back up to at least its original speed (I hope?). Please download it, install, and try it out (your save games should automatically be recognized); and let me know how the performance is, and if it improves.
Thank you very much for your patience, and a Happy New Year!

Sorry for not replying when I said, I got a little busy.
This new version is perfect so far.
Before trying this though I did do some more research on the mouse driven version.
It played slow on every single system I tried it on, even my gaming rig, and the only thing all of systems have in common is the OS.
I don't suppose you have any more information on the other systems people have mentioned this on have you?
Obviously only a shot in the dark but I assume slower systems will have older OS's on and there could be a driver compatibility problem.
Either way, thank you for all the help and the work you've done over the years.
You and Arvale were the only reason I ever used my PPC.

Interesting. The OSes range from XP to 7. But a majority of the users are either using Vista or 7 as far as I can tell.
Also, from what I've heard, there is a problem with ATI/Radeon graphics drivers which makes gfx choppy; but that's a bug in the engine itself… with no real fix.
On Intel machines, I haven't heard much of anything going wrong, especially on Vista or higher. I didn't write the core engine, so don't blame me! :)
In other news, the final episode will have mouse control updated with better pathfinding so it should be much quicker when used, and if it still has problems, there is an option to turn it off completely in the game.
Now all I need to do is finish it ;)

I have to apologise now and feel stupid at the same time.
It appears that I forgot one other thing all my OS's have in common.
One of my security programs.
I have a buffer between all of my new programs I try and the system itself and it appears that that interferes with Arvale.
I've never known it before so it just didn't click until I got a friend to try on a Win7 machine resulting in the same effect.
I am truly sorry for wasting your time on this.
Good luck with part IV =) I can't wait for the whole set now so I can start my Arvale Marathon.
Thanks for your time again. Have a great new year.
